Application of laser welding

● Powder metallurgy field

With the continuous development of science and technology, many industry technologies have special requirements on materials, and materials manufactured by smelting method cannot meet the needs.

Due to the special properties and manufacturing advantages of powder metallurgy materials, traditional smelting materials are being replaced in some fields such as automobiles, aircraft and cutting tools. With the development of powder metallurgy materials, the connection between powder metallurgy materials and other parts becomes more and more serious, which limits the application of powder metallurgy materials.

In the early 1980s, laser welding entered the field of powder metallurgy material processing with its unique advantages, opening up new prospects for the application of the powder metallurgy materials, such as welding diamonds commonly used in the bonding of powder metallurgy materials, because of the low bonding strength, heat affected zone width, in particular, can not adapt to high temperature and high strength requirement, causing the solder to melt and fall off. Laser welding can improve welding strength and high-temperature resistance.

● Electronics Industry

Laser welding has been widely used in the microelectronics industry. Due to the small heat-affected zone of laser welding, rapid heating concentration, and low thermal stress, it shows unique advantages in the packaging of integrated circuits and semiconductor device casings. In the development of vacuum devices, laser welding has also been replied, such as Molybdenum focusing electrode with stainless steel support ring, fast hot cathode filament assembly, etc.

The thickness of the elastic thin-wall corrugated sheet in the sensor or thermostat is 0.05-0.1mm, which is difficult to solve by traditional welding methods. Laser welding is used because TIG welding is easy to weld, has poor plasma stability, and has many influencing factors.

Manufacturing application

Laser welding (Tailored Bland Laser Welding) technology has been widely used in the manufacture of foreign cars. According to statistics, in 2000, there were more than 100 laser tailoring production lines for cutting blanks worldwide, with an annual output of 70 million pieces of tailor welded blanks for car components. Growing at a higher rate. Domestically introduced models such as Passat, Buick, and Audi also use some cut blank structures.

Japan used co2 laser welding instead of flash butt welding to join the steel rolling coils in the steel industry. In the study of ultra-thin plate welding, such as foils with a thickness of fewer than 100 microns, it is impossible to weld. However, YAG laser welding with a special output power waveform has been successful, showing the broad future of laser welding.

● Biomedical science

Laser welding of biological tissue began in the 1970s, the successful welding of Klink et al.and Jain with laser welding of fallopian tubes and blood vessels has led more researchers to try to weld various biological tissues. At present, domestic and international research on laser welding of nerves mainly focuses on laser wavelength, dose, and research on function recovery and laser solder selection. Based on research on laser welding of small blood vessels and skin, Liu Tongjun conducted a welding study on the common bile duct of rats.

Compared with the traditional suturing method, the laser welding method has the advantage of fast matching, no foreign matter reaction during the healing process, maintaining the mechanical properties of the welding part, and the growth of the repaired tissue according to its original biomechanical properties. Therefore, laser welding will be more widely used in future biomedical science.

● Auto industry

In the late 1980s,kilowatt-class lasers were successfully applied to industrial production. Today, laser welding production lines have appeared on a large scale in the automobile manufacturing industry and has become one of the outstanding achievements of the automobile manufacturing industry.

German automakers such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Volvo in Sweden took the lead in laser welding of roofs, bodies, side frames and other sheet metal welding in the 1980s.In the1990s, GM, Ford, and Chrysler introduced laser welding into automobile manufacturing. Although it started late, it developed rapidly.

Italy Fiat uses laser welding in the welding assembly of most steel plate components. Nissan, Honda and Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan use laser welding and cutting technology in the manufacture of body panels. High-strength steel laser welding fittings are used more and more in the manufacture of automobile bodies because of its excellent performance.

In terms of workmanship, Sandia national laboratory and PrattWitney are working together to add powder metals and wires to the laser welding process. The Bremen Applied Beam Technology Institute in Germany has conducted extensive research on the user of laser-welded aluminum alloy body skeletons. It is believed that the addition of filler residues to the welds can help eliminate hot cracks, increase welding speed, and solve tolerance problems. The production line has been put into production at the Mercedes-Benz plant.

OREE laser hand-held fiber laser welding machine adopts the latest generation of fiber laser and is equipped with an intelligent laser welding head. It has many advantages such as simple operation, beautiful welding line, fast welding speed, and no consumables. Welding applications in metal materials such as thin stainless steel plates, carbon steel plates, and galvanized sheets can perfectly replace traditional argon arc welding and electric welding. Hand-held laser welding machine can be widely used in kitchen cabinets, stair elevators, shelves, ovens, stainless steel door and window guardrails, distribution boxes, stainless steel home, and other industries.
