Stainless steel plate is a favourite material in many fields. Its products have excellent performance in all aspects. And it has been widely used in machinery manufacturing, construction engineering, kitchenware manufacturing, rail vehicles and other industries. Nowadays, most of the stainless steel plates are laser-cut. To cut high-quality stainless steel plates requires certain skills.


Cutting and debugging method for stainless steel thick plate


● Nozzle selection: determine the nozzle size and adjust the required air pressure according to the thickness of stainless steel

● Frequency control: enter the basic parameters and increase or decrease the frequency according to the cross-section judgment.

● Duty cycle: enter the basic parameters, and increase or decrease the duty cycle according to the section.

● Focus speed: the section effect is achieved, increase the speed, and debug the fastest value.

● Determine the parameters: the actual production, the duty cycle is above the critical value, and the speed is the limit value of 90%.


▲Cross-section layering should reduce the frequency or properly reduce the positive focus, and yellowing of the section should reduce the duty cycle;

▲The increase of frequency and duty cycle can bring about the increase of speed, but the effect of variation of the section is stratified, parameters can be adjusted according to the actual situation to balance the demand.


Nozzle selection


The diameter of the nozzle determines the shape of the airflow entering the cut, the area of the gas diffusion, and the speed of the airflow, which affects the removal of the melt and the stability of the cutting. The airflow into the cut is large, the speed is fast, and the position of the workpiece in the airflow is appropriate, the stronger the ability of the spray to remove the melt. The thicker the stainless steel, the larger the nozzle diameter and the higher the air pressure setting. The pressure and flow rate should be met at the same time to cut the normal section effect.

The thicker the stainless steel, the larger the nozzle diameter, and the larger the proportional valve setting. Increasing the flow can ensure the pressure and cut the normal section effect. At the same time, to ensure the cutting effect and protect the nozzle from damage, a coaxial test is required before cutting to ensure that the nozzle and the laser output beam are coaxial.


Test method: paste the scotch tape on the nozzle end face, adjust the laser output power to punch, observe whether there are a centre hole and the position of the centre hole on the scotch tape. and adjust the screw on the handle of mirror cavity until the hole made by the laser on the scotch tape coincides with the centre of the nozzle.

Frequency debugging


The effect of frequency change on stainless steel plate cutting: The frequency decreases from 500-200HZ, the cutting section effect becomes fine, and the layering gradually improves. When the frequency is set to 100HZ, it cannot be cut, and it is against blue light. Find the optimal frequency range by changing the frequency. To ensure the best cutting section, the number of pulses must be perfectly matched to the energy of a single pulse.

Duty cycle debugging


Effect of duty cycle change on cutting of stainless steel thick plate: Duty cycle 53% is the critical value, and the duty cycle continues to decrease, with uncut marks appearing on the lower surface, the duty cycle increases to 60%, the section becomes rough, the stratification is obvious, and the cutting surface turns yellow.

Focus selection

 

The focal point is different, and the thickness, material, and quality that can be cut are also different. Different materials and thicknesses need to be adjusted to different focal points. Before cutting, measure the actual zero focus and then refer to the cutting process parameters to determine the most suitable cutting focus faster.
